The Keller Group Family Keeps On Growing

Welcome to Carol Lucas, The Keller Group’s new Senior Strategist!

Carol has been in the public relations industry, helping clients for over 25 years. She specializes in taking complex ideas and technologies and distilling them into effective communications programs across a variety of platforms. She has worked in a variety of Carol Stan Ellieorganizations including: Fortune 100 companies, non-profits, academia, startups and philanthropies.

In the past, Carol was hired by the Gates Library Foundation and helped shepherd communications efforts as it evolved into the largest foundation in the world. Carol is a graduate of the University of Washington and currently resides in Woodinville.

Our Founder and CEO, Lee Keller, worked with Carol at APCO Worldwide in Seattle and recalls that time with a smile. Carol always had the best attitude, along with the others on the team. She always did and still does bring smarts, good humor and strategic thinking to the table. But I always appreciate her frankness. I can count on her to tell is like it is and I appreciate that most of all! Keller added, We’re so lucky to get Carol on our team!

If it’s sunny outside, Carol can be found in her garden, usually with an enthusiastic grandkid helper. When the weather turns, she and her husband head to their Leavenworth cabin to cross-country ski and read by the fire.

Our interview with Carol will tell you even more!

Q: What excites you most about working with The Keller Group?

A: I love coming to work each day and surrounding myself with kind, energetic, and smart people. Lee has a stellar reputation around town (and in the Other Washington) and it’s a joy to hitch my wagon to her star. And TKG’s mission is so perfect: Work hard for clients we believe in and have fun while we’re at it. Life is too short to do otherwise, right?Carol

Q: Is there something about yourself that most people don’t know?

A: Hmmm. I am dying to learn to fly fish. I bought all the gear, including a fabulous vest, but haven’t even taken the rod out of its case yet. And it’s been two years! This is especially embarrassing because we live on a charming, well-stocked lake in Woodinville. Other than that, my favorite hobby is watching TV with my youngest daughter, who is a junior in college.  We spend as much time on the couch together as possible when she’s home. Perhaps this explains my inability to fish.

Q: What is the craziest public relations campaign/crisis you have worked on in your career?

A: Can you say press tour of Alabama in a bookmobile?

Without a doubt, it’s got to be when I helped launch the Gates Library Foundation, established to link the poorest communities in America to the internet via the public library system. We celebrated the first year of GLF success by taking Bill and Melinda Gates on a bookmobile tour of Alabama. We sped down the highway flanked by a cordon of state troopers to rural Demopolis, where we linked Bill to the Today show; then zipped to Selma for a big community celebration; and on to a reception for state legislators in Montgomery. All along the route, we’d pull over to the shoulder, and funnel press on and off the bookmobile. It was quite a day, and a huge eye opener for this Seattle girl to get a first-hand look at the Deep South. It was also probably the first and last time a bookmobile has been the keystone of a PR plan.

Q: What is your favorite movie and why?

A: Probably Waiting for Guffman. I’m a huge fan of Christopher Guest, the genius founding father of the mockumentary genre. My daughter and I are passionate about smart comedy, from Guffman, to quirky British stuff like The IT Crowd and The Office, to mainstream Parks and Rec…..we’re kind of crazy about Amy Schumer too, and, of course, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and anything from Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and their ilk.

Carol brings experience and charisma to The Keller Group and we know she will shine! We are excited and honored to have her!
